sashiko pillow (left in pic)
My first sashiko project is complete! This was part of a gift from last year ~ hubby gifted me 3 sashiko kits, with pre-printed fabric designs. They came complete with needle, thread and instructions. I worked off and on in 2013 on this sakura (cherry blossom) design pillow with purple thread. It's about 12" x 12" in size and I decided to add a zipper closure. I'm so pleased with how well it came out, it sits on my sofa next to my geometric quilted pillow case {also made by me}. My next sashiko kit might be a rabbit design.... I'm not sure yet, since I have two kits left now!
My next project as an altered sweater from the thrift store. I love the thrift store, abandoned articles of clothing just waiting... waiting to be re-purposed! I often find things I can add to (in length) or simply make it my own style with a few snips of the scissors. Well I had found this burnt orange color sweater, it had a collar but only one button by the neck. I also found the bottom of it wasn't very even and the sleeves needed to have the cuff let out.
I added fabric to the edges of this, to give it a pop of color (and an even edge). And since I wanted to be able to close it, I added buttons and loops.
It now has four blur buttons and white loops. I also added this same fabric to the collar, which you can see better below. I'm so pleased with how I was able to alter it! You just have to experiment at times to see what a garment can look like with a few things changed.
I hope the new year finds you well and brings many new crafty adventures your way!
